How to Add Biblical Integration to a Liberty University Assignment

Liberty University asks for a biblical worldview element in many assignments: a biblical integration in a discussion thread, a Scripture or biblical principle in each reply, a faith section in a paper, or a whole Integration of Faith and Learning essay. The requirement is graded, and most lost points come from treating it as a verse to attach rather than a link to explain.

What graders look for

A good integration does three things in a few sentences. It names a specific passage or principle, it says what that passage means in its context, and it shows how the meaning bears on the course concept or decision in front of you. The third step is the integration; without it, the verse is decoration.

A method that works in any course

1. Start with the concept, not the verse

Write down the course idea you are discussing first: informed consent, servant leadership, stewardship of resources, care for a vulnerable client. The question to ask is what Scripture says about that idea, not which verse sounds related.

2. Choose a passage that speaks to it

Look for a passage that addresses the idea directly. Read the surrounding chapter so you use the passage for what it means. A phrase lifted out of context is easy for an instructor to spot.

3. Explain the connection in your own words

Say how the principle shapes the decision. In a nursing ethics thread, that might be how the dignity of every person (Genesis 1:27) supports a nurse's duty to secure real informed consent from a patient with limited English. In a management paper, it might be how stewardship (Luke 16:10) frames honest reporting of small variances, not only large ones.

4. Keep it in proportion

In a 500-word thread, two to four sentences of integration is usually right. In a paper with a faith section, a full paragraph or two. The guide and rubric tell you how much weight it carries.

How to cite Scripture in APA

In APA 7, name the version in your first in-text citation, for example (English Standard Version, 2001/2016, Matthew 22:39), then give book, chapter and verse after that unless you switch versions. Unlike the 6th edition, APA 7 puts the Bible in the reference list, as a book entry for the edition you used.

Questions students ask

How much biblical integration does a Liberty thread need?

Usually two to four sentences in a 300 to 600-word thread: the passage, its meaning, and how it bears on the concept. Some guides ask for one integration per thread and a biblical principle or Scripture in each reply.

Does the Bible go in the APA reference list?

Yes, in APA 7. The Bible gets a reference entry for the edition you used, and the first in-text citation names the version, for example (English Standard Version, 2001/2016, Matthew 22:39).

Can I use the same verse in every assignment?

You can, but graders notice. A passage chosen for the specific concept in each assignment shows the integration was thought through.
